The Eastern Australia Ground Control Group (EAGCG) has been a client for more than ten years. In that time, I have managed the hosting, domain name registration, site development, and website maintenance for the group. I also provide traffic analysis and advice at annual meetings of the committee.
In the past decade, the EAGCG website has undergone a number of updates from a simple HTML website to a WordPress powered site with password protected content for meeting attendees, event management features, and a library of CDN-hosted presentation files.
In 2013, the site was migrated to WordPress with a number of the existing features but the design and functionality were in need of an update.
In late 2017 the site was completely rebuilt. An update to the EAGCG logo provided a new colour palette and direction for the site design.
The site development took a mobile-first approach, aiming to be fully responsive, performant, and lightweight so that EAGCG members, who are sometimes working in the field, can access information on mobile devices even where network connectivity may be limited.
The EAGCG website features a number of custom post types, including an event post with an automatic expiry feature. The site uses Advanced Custom Fields to extend custom posts making site maintenance and updates much easier.
One of the primary functions of the site is to provide meeting attendees access to technical presentations. These presentations are stored using Amazon Web Services allowing the society to maintain a complete archive.
